About Us

IROS Elevator Design Services was founded in 1996 by Michael Sori, whose multi-disciplined elevator background gives him the expertise, skills and desire to run a firm dedicated to serving the best interests of his clients. He saw a need for a consulting firm that can provide a depth of expertise to tackle the difficult engineering and vertical transportation needs of today's unique new construction and modernization/conversion projects..

In addition to Mike's extensive knowledge of elevator engineering, application and codes, his time as field superintendent with a major construction company gives him a unique perspective on the design process as it related to actually having to install the systems his firm engineers and specifies. His knowledge of jobsite scheduling, trade related work and job closeouts gives Mike the capability of working with the general contractor and construction managers to facilitate the installation and turnover of the vertical transportation system..

Mike personally handles every job that comes into the office and does not "hand off" the managing and engineering of the project to an employee. Each project is referred to by name and not a project number.

Prior to IROS Elevator, some of Mike's career highlights included:

  • (6) years as an elevator consultant and project manager at a major elevator consulting firm. His responsibilities included initial design, analysis, specification preparation, field coordination and final punchout of new and existing projects.
  • (3) years as field superintendent for a major construction company where his responsibilities included overseeing installation and schedules of elevators, escalators and material handling systems on several monumental projects.
  • (5) years with a large international elevator company where his responsibilities included field and application engineering, as well as technical coordination with the architect, engineers and clients.

Mike holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Steven's Institute of Technology, 1982 and has taken postgraduate courses in Construction Project Management at New York University.
